TalkTools® Horn #4

TalkTools® Horn #4

Horn #4 is the fourth level in the TalkTools Horn Hierarchy, a research-based Oral Placement Therapy (OPT) program that uses graduated resistance to build controlled oral airflow. Each successive horn increases in difficulty, requiring clients to develop greater respiratory, lip, and velar control as they progress from Horn #1 through Horn #12.

Therapy Goals

  • Develop graded oral airflow control at an intermediate level of the Horn Hierarchy
  • Strengthen abdominal grading and respiratory support for sustained exhalation
  • Increase lip rounding, lip seal, and velar mobility for oral sound production
  • Build oral motor endurance through consistent, structured horn blowing practice
  • Advance the client progressively toward higher-resistance horn levels
  • Part of the clinically developed TalkTools Horn Hierarchy, enabling systematic oral motor progression
  • Increases in difficulty from Horn #1 (easiest) through Horn #12 (most difficult)
  • Intermediate difficulty level appropriate for clients who have mastered Horns #1-3
  • Provides structured resistance to continue building oral motor strength and airflow control
  • Durable, easy-to-clean construction suitable for repeated clinical and home use
  • Clients with dysarthria, apraxia of speech, or other motor speech disorders
  • Children and adults with low oral muscle tone related to cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, or autism spectrum disorder
  • Speech-language pathologists implementing the TalkTools Horn Kit program
  • Clients who have successfully completed Horns #1 through #3 and are ready to advance
  • School-based, clinic, and private practice settings
  • 1 x TalkTools Horn #4
